Glass Lab Edinburgh Screen Printing On Glass Course
Glass Lab Edinburgh Screen Printing On Glass Course
March 15th -16th 2025
Glass Lab Edinburgh
17 North Leith Sands, Edinburgh EH6 4ER.
Explore the exciting potential of silk screen printing onto glass.
Using traditional glass paints and enamels, you will build up layers of print to create stunning, one-off works of art. We will provide you with pre-prepared screens with four of your own images, each up to A5 in size. You will also have access to a large selection of stock images on screens. Your designs will be printed onto float glass and fired in the kiln. You are also welcome to bring your own coloured, untextured glass to print on. We will explore multi layered printing as well as double sided printing and various stencil making techniques.
The course will include demonstrations on the use of Photoshop to prepare images, as well as advice on how to continue using screen printing as part of your creative practice. No previous glass or print experience is required. The aim of the course is to build your confidence and knowledge of print to a level where you can easily continue the practice after the course.
Day One
In the morning, there will be a talk explaining how the screens were made and demonstrating Photoshop techniques to ensure a solid understanding of the process. We will review many samples of work and discuss advanced techniques as well as simpler ones. In the afternoon, we will design your print collages and prepare glass for printing. During the master class, we will perform double-sided printing with multiple layers of paints and transparent enamels.
Day two will be dedicated to printing. I will demonstrate printing with simple hand-made stencils as well as more complex halftone images using photosensitive stencils. The focus is on equipping you with the knowledge and confidence to continue printing after the two days. I will provide all necessary links and support contacts to facilitate this.
The master class includes the use of all equipment, float glass, paints, and enamels, as well as access to my support group for any post-course questions. Students have the option to keep their screens for £40. I also offer simple kits for those interested. The key goal is to empower you to continue printing beyond the course, ensuring it is not just a one-time experience.
